Texas Banks have seen a recent increase in scams where customers have received calls or text messages informing them that their accounts have been compromised and directing the customer to call either a toll free or local number. Allegiance Bank never requests personal banking information such as Personal Identification Number, Account Number or other sensitive information by electronic means. If you receive any requests for personal information from a phone call, email or text message, please contact an Allegiance Bank representative for verification before giving out any information.
Take steps to reduce the amount of mail you receive that displays personal information. Make copies of all the information that you carry daily and keep it in a secure place. Be cautious of telephone and door-to-door solicitations.
Before you travel, notify the Bank and request a travel notice be placed on your debit card for the duration of your trip. If we are not aware that you are traveling, certain transactions may be declined on your debit card. By informing the Bank of your travel and/or purchase plans, you will be able to use your debit card without the fear of having your transactions declined. Your PC is your first line of defense on the Internet, and with just a couple of tools and some diligence, you can greatly improve your security. Make sure your computer has both an anti-spyware protection program that detects and removes spyware and an anti-virus program. Keep both programs updated. Be very protective of your personal and account information. There are criminals who try to trick you by creating sites that look similar to real sites. The best way to know who you are dealing with is to type the address in your browser address bar.
If you receive a suspicious email using Allegiance Bank's name and asking for personal or Allegiance Bank account information, you can forward the email to email@example.com. Question suspicious emails. We will never send you an email asking for your online ID or passcode.
Receive and store your bank statements electronically. Use Direct Deposit to have paychecks, dividends, and other recurring credits deposited directly to your account.
Use Allegiance eBanking to ensure secure access to your accounts. Monitor your account activity frequently by logging into eBanking and using email alerts to detect fraud earlier.
Choose passcodes and personal identification numbers (PINs) that are difficult for others to guess. If possible, use both letters and numbers, and if the passcodes or PINs are case-sensitive, use a combination of lowercase and capital letters. Use a different passcode for each of your online accounts.
Never carry your credit card PIN (Personal Identification Number) on your person. Memorize it, or keep the number in a safe place at home. Make copies of all the credit card information that you carry daily and keep it in a secure place.
Have paychecks, dividends, and other recurring credits deposited directly to your account with no more worrying about lost or stolen checks. Protect yourself against fraud by using checks printed on paper with special security features.
Shield the ATM keypad with your hand or body while entering your PIN. If you notice anything suspicious or that seems unsafe, such as the lighting around the ATM not working, use another ATM or return later.
- Carry only necessary identification. Do not carry your Social Security card with you.
- Make copies of all the information that you carry daily, such as credit cards, driver's license, and insurance cards, and keep the copies in a secure place.
- Be cautious when providing your Social Security number. Verify every time you provide it whether it is needed for the application or transaction.
- Be cautious of telephone and door-to-door solicitations. Never provide personal information unless you have initiated the contact and have confirmed the business or person's identity.
- Confirm the validity of all requests for sensitive personal, financial, or account information, particularly if they are made with an urgent or threatening tone.
- Don't leave personal information in your car. It's even more valuable than your stereo.
- Shred unnecessary financial documents immediately. Discard unused instant credit offers, ensuring that they are properly shredded.
- Eliminate as much paper as possible, and be cautious with the paper you receive.
- Take steps to reduce the amount of mail you receive that displays personal information.
- Collect your mail promptly. Use U.S. Postal Service mailboxes for outgoing mail when possible.
- Monitor all of your banking and credit card accounts regularly.
- Check your credit report annually.
