Data Privacy Day

Observed annually on January 28th, Data Privacy Day exists to generate awareness about the importance of protecting your personal information and to promote privacy in the workplace. According to the National Cyber Security Alliance, Data Privacy Day commemorates the January 28, 1981 signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection. As a 2021 #PrivacyAware Champion, Allegiance Bank strives to remind our customers how they can best protect their online presence and personal data.

We believe that as a business, you can (and should) take steps to build trust, enhance growth and grow your reputation by respecting your customer’s privacy. Allegiance Bank respects our own customer’s privacy above all, by following security measures of the CIS Critical Security Controls, NIST Cybersecurity Framework and Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act, establishing a privacy framework, assessing data collection practices, and through transparency with our customers.

We also want to remind our community of several important steps you can take to better manage your personal information and data.

  • Value your personal information as if it is money. Keep information such as your purchase history, location or IP address private and protected.
  • Manage your apps. Some apps track your location in the background, access your contacts and photos, and/or keep your personal information on file. Stay up to date on whether an app is requesting information that is not relevant. Deleting unused apps and keeping others up to date will help keep your information secure.
  • Understand your privacy settings. Do you know what level of information you are sharing online or to apps? Check in on your security settings and make sure you feel comfortable with the level of information shared.

Not sure what your privacy settings are or interested in changing them on certain websites? Manage your privacy settings through direct links provided by the NCSA: https://staysafeonline.org/stay-safe-online/managing-your-privacy/manage-privacy-settings/
